Snack healthy

Summer for kids means more time at home, hanging out with friends and neighbors and … SNACKS! When a snack attack strikes, help kids re-fuel with these nutrition-packed choices.

■ Peel a banana and dip it in low-fat yogurt. Roll in crushed whole-grain cereal and freeze.

■ Spread celery sticks with peanut butter or low-fat cream cheese. Top with raisins. ■ Stuff a whole-grain pita pocket with lowfat ricotta cheese and apple slices. Add a dash of cinnamon.

■ Mix together ready-to-eat whole-grain cereal, dried fruit and nuts in a sandwich bag for an on-the-go snack.

■ Spread a small scoop of frozen yogurt on two graham crackers and add sliced banana to make a yummy sandwich.

■ Top low-fat vanilla yogurt with crunchy granola and sprinkle with blueberries.

■ Make snack kabobs. Put cubes of low-fat cheese and grapes on pretzel sticks.

■ Toast a whole-grain waffle and top with lowfat yogurt and sliced peaches.

■ Blend low-fat milk, frozen strawberries and a banana for 30 seconds in a blender for a delicious smoothie.
